OUR FOOD JUSTICE MOVEMENT NEEDS YOU!! YOUNG CITY GROWERS 2017 CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

We are a local expression of a growing movement that wants to imagine and create more socially, environmentally and economically sustainable ways of growing food.  Our urban farm site in Waterloo has grown into a beautiful renewal space where diverse people cross paths working alongside each other each summer.

YCG Kids – Sunnydale Neighbourhood kids helped us plant our first butterfly garden, 2016!

We have provided summer engagement and  employment to over 30 diverse students and youth since our first growing season in 2013 through grants and the proceeds of our summer CSA market!

David and Gang of Waterloo, Junior Interns 2016 and a great addition to the YCG Team!

Young City Growers has been a labour of love for Community Organizer, Fanis Juma Radstake who will be decreasing her hours at the farm site this summer to have increased respite for herself and her young family that has felt the big demands of birthing an urban food project!  Fanis, who is a student of Social Work, would also like to put some energy into exploring resource development for Young City Growers as a newly registered Non-Profit Organization and strengthening research partnerships with local universities to help keep the YCG model sustainable.

We are putting a call out to community members who want to make YCG 2017 a success and make supporting the local food movement part of their summer routine.

Volunteers Ben and Mackenzie made tomato picking date nights part of their late summer routine!

Urban gardening can be a meaningful addition to your summer in the city, you might want to garden in solitude as part of your daily routine, or as part of a group event, as part of your student placement or your 40 high school volunteer hours. Market days are especially fun for the whole family!

Community Meetings will be held monthly beginning February 2017 to plan out the growing season. For a successful growing season, we would request that volunteers, or those representing a volunteer group participate in our planning season by attending meetings.

Help us create the kind of world we dream to pass on by making YCG 2017 a collective community effort!
